Up-to-date as of Aug 2021 with the addition of Blinx: The Time Sweeper to Game Pass!
Below is a quick guide to playing Blinx: The Time Sweeper (TTS) and Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space (MOTAS) by console generation. For some of you reading, you can finally play that cute time cat platformer that you missed out on because you didn’t know it existed at the time. OG Xbox
Obviously, if you have an OG Xbox that isn’t gathering dust in the garage, you can play the games on their release platform.
Xbox 360
Not recommended as frame rates reportably drop in most cases for both games. Experiences may vary so if you have an Xbox 360, give it a shot.
For TTS, you can put your disc right into the console or purchase a copy from the Microsoft Store for 10 USD. For MOTAS, you only have the disc to work with. Xbox One
For people who have an Xbox One (or any of the hardware revision models), this is your best and most accessible option to play TTS on a modern console. Pop in a disc or buy a digital copy.
Here’s some footage from the Xbox One version.
You can expect to see better detail, higher performance and improved framerate stability if you run it on Xbox One X, being given the special Xbox One X Enhanced treatment. This video compares TTS between the OG Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One X.
Sadly, MOTAS is currently not backwards compatible because the people at Microsoft are cowards.
Xbox Series X|S
TTS will run on the Xbox Series X and S as previously described. It's expected to look and play even better, taking advantage of the shiny 4K, HDR and Dolby Atmos features.
Not only that, as of July 27 2021, TTS is avaliable to Xbox Game Pass members on cloud and console! Blinx streams have noticebly increased as a result which is great to see. It'll take some time to see some good footage of said performance though. For now here's a tweet from Geoff Keighley.Xbox Game Pass Ultimate
Emulation (cxbx-r)
Currently, OG Xbox emulation is not yet at a stage where the Blinx games are playable (we’re talking like 0.5 fps).
Cxbx-R has made great progress over the last two years so once the vertex buffer cache is implemented, the games will start running more smoothly. For now, though, you’d probably want to check up on emulation progress next year or contribute to its development if you’re impatient.
